Here are some of the options available:

Natural Arches

There are over 350 natural arches between Aztec and Navajo lake, and several are in close proximity to Mountain View Campground.  Some arches can be driven to, and others require a short hike, but they are are great fun to explore.  If you love geolory or you have kids who love to climb and explore, this is a great adventure for you!

Hidden Places

Northwest New Mexico has many hidden wonders including secret lakes and ancient pueblos and petroglyph sites. There have been many times local has expresses surprise at some of the locations Johnathan knows about and can show you. This is a full-day adventure since many of the sites are scattered across the countryside. Plan to bring a lunch and snacks and see some wonderful places! If you want to get up close and personal with ancient puebloan culture, this is the trip for you!

Rockhounding Adventures

Johnathan is a part of the local gem and mineral club and sits on the board for the museum of geology at San Juan College. He has spent 12 years exploring the countryside looking for treasures of the earth.  From special rock formations, fossils and petrified wood in New Mexico, to gems and minerals of the Colorado mountains (a short drive to the north), Johnathan can help your group spend a day finding treasures to take home and cherish forever.  

Mountain Adventures

45 minutes to our north are the La Plata Mountains of Colorado, and just beyond them are the San Juans.  These majectic mountains are filled with magnificant waterfalls, breathtaking mountain trails leading to high-altitude vistas, and copious gems and minerals to hunt.  If you’d like a day exploring the areas to the north, give Johnathan a shout. He has been exploring and guiding in these mountains for over ten years.
